Fair Recruiment and Selection Workshop


With a tight labour market in Singapore, companies constantly faces the challenges of Talent acquisition. The challenges and pain-points are experienced throughout the recruitment and selection process. This includes the ability to attract and also to hire with confidence. At the same time, the workforce is more informed and participative. How do companies prepare themselves well to be a fair and inclusive employer of choice? How can Leaders build a value driven culture to give potential talents a positive experience, beginning with the Recruitment and selection experience?


The Fair Recruitment and Selection Workshop is designed to to influence HR leaders to take up leadership in building a value driven culture in their organisation, beginning with Talent Acquisition via the use of the FPE Index. Participants will also be equipped with the skills and knowledge to review their Recruitment and Selection policy, practices, processes and tools in order to identify their pain points within TAFEP fair employment framework. With this knowledge, they are able to participate in building a more fair, inclusive and robust Recruitment and Selection system and enable the hiring managers to have confidence in making the selection decisions to hire well.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how to use FPE Index for building a value driven culture in their organisation
  • Achieve a better understanding of the Key Principles of Fair Employment Practices
  • Acquire knowledge of a systematic Recruiting approach base on merit throughout the Recruitment and Selection process
  • Acquire knowledge of Interview techniques, bias, etc. in particular, addressing diversity and inclusiveness issues

    • Assessing and applying consistent and fair selection criteria in Job Advertisements, Application Forms, Job Interviews
    • Avoiding bias in selection (Unconscious bias)
    • Inclusion of KETs and Itemised Payslip
    • Case studies of recruitment
  • Fair Recruitment and Selection of a Diverse Workforce:
    • Positive of having a diverse workforce with changing demographics and employment landscape
    • Leading practices and tips to promote fair recruitment and selection of diverse workforce. 
    • Impact of technology and tools on Fair Recruitment and Selection practices
    • Reinforcing the value driven culture: Communications

Ernest Chew
Silver Spring

Ernest Chew has over 35 years of corporate experience of which 25 years were in HR Management in Singapore and in the Asia Pacific region. A veteran HR practitioner, hhas held Senior HR management positions with American, European and Local Global Corporations as well as local SME

He is fully versatile in all areas of HR having deep and extensive experiences in learning and development, compensation and benefits, talent and organization development as well as business partnering and human resource operations. Ernest has worked in manufacturing and non-manufacturing corporations in the aviation, semiconductor, petrochemical, pharmaceutical industries, Life Science, Services, Early Childhood.

Ernest is currently a certified SME SkillsFuture Mentor with Spring Singapore. He is also a SNEF trainer.
Ernest has a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Rutgers University, a degree in Business Administration from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA)
