Promise Reinstated

Life was going well for Helen. She was about to join an MNC as an engineer when she discovered that she was pregnant. Helen duly informed the recruitment agency about her pregnancy.

To her surprise, Helen’s new employer then decided to withdraw the job offer and offered one month’s salary as a gesture of goodwill. Helen felt that she was being discriminated against because of her pregnancy, and approached TAFEP for help.

Upon being contacted by TAFEP, the employer claimed that they were unaware of Helen’s pregnancy, and that the job offer was withdrawn due to global restructuring. TAFEP explained the implications and responsibilities of employers in observing the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices. The employer accepted TAFEP’s advice and agreed to reinstate the job offer.
